Japanese Teapot (Kyusu): Precision, Balance, and Perfect Green Tea
A Japanese teapot – often a kyusu with a side handle – is designed for control. Think short infusions, precise pouring, and a fine (built-in) filter. This makes it ideal for Japanese green teas such as sencha, gyokuro, and hojicha. In this collection, you'll find models that suit a calm, refined tea ritual.
Why use a Japanese teapot?
- Fine filter for clear pouring without leaves.
- Compact capacity for short, repeatable infusions.
- Ergonomic handle for precise and drip-free pouring.
Buyer's Guide: How to choose your kyusu
1) Filter type
Japanese teapots often have an integrated sieve. Do you also use other loose-leaf teas? Then an additional tea strainer is handy for flexibility.
2) Material: ceramic or porcelain
Ceramic offers a warm aesthetic and stable heat (see also ceramic teapot). Porcelain is extra taste-neutral (view porcelain teapots).
3) Make it a set
For a complete Japanese tea moment, combine it with Japanese tea sets and matching teacups.
Tips for Japanese green tea
- Use water that is not boiling (often 60–80°C, depending on the tea).
- Keep brewing times short and repeat multiple infusions.
- Preheat the pot briefly for a stable result.

How do I clean my teapot and accessories?
Maintenance advice:
- Rinse with lukewarm water after use and dry immediately with a soft cloth.
- Porcelain / Glass / Stainless Steel: mild detergents only; light descaling (water + a little vinegar), then rinse thoroughly.
- Cast Iron (enameled): do not wash in dishwasher; avoid thermal shocks; dry thoroughly to prevent rust.
- Clay (Yixing type): rinse with clear water only (no detergent); use one teapot per tea type.
- Copper: interior tinned/stainless steel — rinse and dry immediately; polish exterior occasionally if desired.
Always consult the specific instructions on the product page if they differ.
How do I choose the right teapot?
The choice depends on the type of tea (green/white, oolong, black, pu-erh), the volume (solo, duo, family), and the material (neutral porcelain, visual glass, heat-retaining cast iron, clay for characterful tea, robust stainless steel).
